Authentic, carefully designed cross-cultural learning experiences to develop self-assured leaders and global citizens.

Shift 21 is an 8-month program starting in September 2010, which begins and ends at Windhorse Farm, in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Shift 21 is about:

*independent thought
*compassion and understanding
*a sense of purpose and passion
*personal responsibility
*emotional intelligence
*authentic leadership
*positive communication
*global awareness and connection
*contemplation and self-reflection
*sustainability
*innovation and creativity

The program is designed in three distinct phases, of which the second two are optional.

See Yourself & Your World With New Eyes

Your journey begins from the moment you sign up, with pre-program exercises and fund raising support in securing your tuition.

You'll spend the first 6 weeks with us Canada, at Windhorse Farm, a beautiful, zero-carbon-footprint sustainable forest and farm near Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.

In this phase, all the participants gather to create a foundation of awareness, skill development, self-discovery and engagement with chosen paths and with the Shift 21 community as a whole.

Led by experienced facilitators who are thought leaders in their own fields and actively engaged in change work themselves, the curriculum follows 4 main streams:

*Authentic Action : Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship
*Happy Body, Happy Mind : Holistic Health and Healthy Living
*Who are you...REALLY? : Transformative Studies, Philosophy & Psychology
*The Web of Life : Sustainability & Earth Stewardship

Here you'll begin to acquire and practice the core skills that you'll use throughout the rest of the program, if you choose to continue.

Connect, Engage and Transform

The next 5 and a half months is an optional experiential journey that you'll design yourself and it's where the majority of your learning will take place...in real time, and real life.

You have a number of options in this section of the program, some are global and some are local. You can also choose to take just the first six weeks alone, or skip the 5 month middle section and join us again for the final 4 weeks.

During this second phase of the program, your learning journey will continue through audios, videos, written assignments and projects. You'll be in touch with the campus in Canada, as well as all the other student groups throughout your volunteer experience.

If you're in Nova Scotia, you'll have the option of attending local classes and events in person throughout this 5 month period.

Re-Connection and Integration

Your journey completes with a 4-week reflection and integration period back at Windhorse Farm, where the entire student group will reassemble to share and process their experiences.

This will provide a quiet space for you to understand the impact your experience has had and how you've changed as a result of it.You'll also have time to reflect on your journey and allow insights to arise that may not have had the opportunity to surface while you were immersed in your experience.

You'll have the opportunity here to create a framework for how you'd like to move forward, possibly researching, mapping out and discussing your next steps.

Plus, you'll have the training and support to create multimedia projects to share with your community, both during and after your travels.

And our post-program support and mentoring will help you to move toward the actions and goals you choose as a result of your journey, once you return to your home or school.
